Pilates for Kids!

Being a parent is most definitely no easy task, particularly if you are a parent to a school-aged child! Parents all too often will be faced with the stress of attempting to meet their children at a level that they can understand, but sometimes these fast-paced little ones find themselves feeling a bit overwhelmed as well, and not being able to fully comprehend why it is that they’re feeling the way that they are. If you are the parent to a young child and are looking for some options that can assist your child in feeling better and healthier, both mentally and physically, this is the article for you!

School-aged kids are being diagnosed with ADD and ADHD at alarming rates. Parents receive notes and calls from their child’s school claiming that their children are out of control, can’t sit still, are disruptive, etc. As a parent, it is easy to feel discouraged and perhaps even alarmed at the situation. The good news is that there are some natural things that can help your wiggly one find a sense of calm. And one of the best ways to do that is through the practice of Pilates.

Pilates has been known for decades to help people be able to calm their minds and heal their body’s in a manner that is simply unprecedented, regardless of age, gender or skill level! One of the biggest issues in our school’s is that the freedom to run around is becoming increasingly limited. Teachers and staff have a strict set of standards that requires the unrealistic expectation that young kids can sit still, listen quietly, and keep their hands to themselves for hours on end with limited recesses and even physical education courses. Let’s face it. Kids need to run and play to burn off some of that excess energy that they have!

While Pilates is a great way for your child to work their bodies and get some much needed exercise to help with the physical aspect that they are dealing with, Pilates can also greatly help your child learn how to be able to practice mindfulness. In other words, when they are sitting in class and start to get a bit antsy, Pilates can teach them the skills that they need to take deep breaths and turn to their inner selves to be able to more adequately tackle those feelings of needing to move! Pilates is a wonderful form of exercise that truly can help your child, and yourself, to find a restorative sense of balance and wellbeing throughout your entire body and your life.
